Hotwired Punk Band

History

HOTWIRED was formed in April 1999 by four miss matched characters with one thing in common…. A love for punk rock. Jamie (Satan) Fish took control of the vocals , Dale the lead guitar , Becky rhythm guitar and Sado, bass guitar .The fact they did not have a drummer did not deter them, and they started writing their own material from the beginning. Much to the joy of the local punx but horror of the local shoppers, their debut gig was for charity in Somerfields car park, with Rob `SEMTEX`standing in on drums.
In late May HOTWIRED were approached by young punk , Nikki (Groundsheet) Purdy who asked them if they needed another guitarist. Sado replied " no but we need a drummer" To which Nikki replied "I've never played drums before, but what the fuck I'll give it a go". So with a borrowed drum kit ,and in Becky and Sado`s front room they had their first practice with a full line up. Groundsheet was great on the drums and after only two practices played his first gig with HOTWIRED, playing support to SEMTEX, PROJECT MORK and NUCLEAR ANARCHY PLC, at their friends birthday party. With the line up now complete ,they hired a local town hall to practice in (due to complaints from Sado and Becky's neighbours) Groundsheet bought himself a drum kit and things started moving along nicely .

In October for just a laugh HOTWIRED entered The Starmaker Talent Competition on Thursday Oct 31st HOTWIRED and one of their number one fans Sado`s sister Maxine turned up for the first heat at Diss Park Hotel. Basically there to take the piss ,they took to the stage . They blasted through Two faced friend, Driving me insane and Braindead. Once they left the stage one of the judges said " That was great but I was expecting to be spat at" To which Groundsheet replied "Well, that can be arranged" but to the amazement of the band they still got through to the semi-finals . Unfortunately though their raucous punk anthems and dedication to everyone on the dole ( although most of the audience were in fact O.A.P `s )did not impress the judges or audience enough to get them a place in the final. They were actually beaten by Andre c and company a vocal troupe, there's no accounting for taste !!!

On the 11th of December the band set out to see ON FILE, RETALIATOR and BAKERS
DOZEN at the Barking Smack , Gt. Yarmouth. They were all pissed when they got there, due to boozing it up in the afternoon. BAKERS DOZEN had not been able to make it so HOTWIRED were asked if they wanted to play. HOTWIRED jumped at the chance even though they were drunk and totally unprepared . So using RETALIATORS gear they got up and played a half hour set. They went down really well with the odd forgotten word and wrong note going unnoticed .
Late December saw Jamie leave the band due to commitments beyond his control, so Dale took over on vocals. Armed with an hour and a half of material they played a gig at the Maids Head, Stalham. The gig went well and they were invited back to perform again, although the landlord had constantly told them, " turn it down, it's too fucking loud". This proved to be true the next time they played there as they blew the PA speakers. In February 2000 they went into the recording studio and recorded their fifteen track CD demo titled PISSED & KNACKERED. The demo was recorded live and mixed in just two days , the end result was very pleasing. March saw HOTWIRED support PROJECT MORK and W.O.R.M at Fat Pauly`s ,Norwich. Also in March they played yet another gig
at the Maids Head .In April , shearing a mini bus with SEMTEX , HOTWIRED set off to London to play at the Easter Punx Picnic at The Goldsmiths Tavern , New Cross. They were the 4th band on and played a blinding set impressing the pogoing crowd. May the 6th and disaster strikes, Hotwired play a gig with WEEVIL at the Brunswick , GT. Yarmouth . Three quarters of an hour through their set and HOTWIRED blow up their PA....yet again . In October 2000 Hotwired split due to personal circumstances and left just Sado and Groundsheet. But pretty much straight away Smeg (Vocals) and his son Andy (Guitar) joined, Hotwired was back. They played as a four-piece band, writing new material as well as playing majority of the original bands songs and played local gigs straight away.
In February 2001 Paul joined the band as lead guitarist and now the band have played over 20 gigs up to the end of 2001, including Hits 2001 25th Punk Anniversary on the Sunday night at the Carleton, South London, Punx Picnic again and places such as Hull, Leicester and Birmingham, they continue to tour the UK.
In July 2002 Andy (guitarist) decided to leave the band due to personal circumstances, with no ill feeling amongst the rest of the band. Hotwired continue to tour as a five piece band, with Andy Horsefall joining as
backing vocals.........

2004 saw groundsheet leave the band to pursue a career in alcohol, but as luck would have it we found a great new drummer. The introduction of tom to the band gave hotwired a much better sound, even more improved when dale made a welcome return after an absence of 4 years and in july we recorded our second album 'make it count' In august hotwired toured  Romania and Bulgaria, and were welcomed by a very enthusiastic audience. Whilst on tour we recieved a great deal of interest and were interviewed by a bulgarian national tv station and several fanzines.2004 also saw Smeg take on his own music venue the ferryboat inn , Kings Street, Norwich, which we gained some great support slots, with the likes of Anti nowhere league, Uk Subs, Demented are go, the Peacocks plus many more Due to the incressing comitments with the pub Smeg quit the band and is replaced by Dave who also plays with the deathskulls and highlinners.............
